White Water Biking
A beautiful Saturday. The C&O Trail (about 3 and a half miles north of my apartment) reminds me in many ways of other trails I’ve biked. However, the section around Great Falls has rocky rapids, kayakers, a mule-drawn boat, lots of turtles, and other novelties. My nature pix are here.
Sunday I took lunch at Tysons Galleria, an upscale shopping mall 3.4 miles west of my apartment. I decided I prefer the trail and a hot dog. Alas, I’m specific about the distance because my office is considering a move to just across the street from this mall. 3.4 miles would be a half-hour bike trip in any other direction. However, Washingtonians know that Tysons Corner was designed for cars, not people. And it’s not doing well for cars.
NPR: “A monstrosity. …You can’t get there from here. … You’re in traffic engineer hell,… a commuter nightmare… utterly inhospitable to pedestrians.” I scouted Sunday’s quiet streets in my car for a decent bike route. I have not yet found one.
