Just Passing Through

This week a friend from Missouri came to see her son graduate from USMC Officer Candidate School. Serving as chauffeur gave me the privilege of visiting the marine base at Quantico. The three of us had a short but beautiful afternoon around Quantico and Dumfries. I also drove Lillian up into Maryland to visit a school friend of hers, who fed us some good Taiwan-style seafood.

Saturday evening the apartment managers gave a picnic for residents. Sunday evening, I was able to visit with a friend formerly from Missouri and now at Mississippi State University.

My ventures on the Beltway usually found it to be a six-lane parking lot. I already knew that for rush hour one must multiply travel time by at least three. However, a 25-minute drive on 495 at six a.m. Saturday morning took two and half hours.
For church Sunday I ran slides. The song service went acceptably. In the sermon my mind went off on such a tangent that I forgot to advance a slide. I then wondered if not paying attention was a matter of choice reinforced by practice, or inevitable. This line of thought led to another slow slide change.
