Adventures and Reflections

Just Right

My kitchen tableI’ve been pretty busy with work. That was apparent as I found myself enhancing this post with photos of kitchen tables. How uncool is that? I cherish simple pleasures. After several searches I did a little happy dance to find a table that was not too big, not too small, but just right. It can expand too.  I could show you photos of the Ikea dresser I fit into the bedroom! A Target sofa was perfect for the living room. (Zzz) Oh, maybe later?

On a broader scale, I am back to weekly rehearsals for church music. I played keyboard last Sunday, and might help with sound or slides in the future.  Each week I look forward to Bible study with a small group.

The Metro pass I bought on the fourth of July has several round trips left on it. For Saturday adventures, I may wait a few weeks until peak summer tourist season is past and perhaps Metro repairs and delays clear up.

Before or after work I am able to fit in exercise in walking or biking the neighborhood, often picking up groceries on the way back. I’ve not needed to drive the car for two weeks.  I’ve also used the apartment complex exercise machines and swimming pool.  One can be too fit; my problem knee complained.

Sofa. Multifunctional sleeper goodness too.Just as I am getting a comfortable rhythm, and wondering if I could fit in an evening or two to creativosity, I find that the institute is considering a move to larger and cheaper space about three miles away. Sigh. They warned of this possibility when I interviewed in March. Yesterday I began measuring computer equipment in inches, kilowatts, BTUs, gigabytes, megahertz, and other dimensions. The cramped computer closet made me  glad I had been exercising.

It is sometimes possible to arrange furniture and metal boxes just right. With Tetris maneuvers I can make the pieces fit into a room or a calendar. But living beings and organizations require tensions, transitions, and flexibility. I lift my foot. I fall forward! I put my foot down. One step! ‘Most everyone else is moving too. “Just right” is only a snapshot.
