Adventures and Reflections

Chair and pianoFrom left to right: exercise bike, harp, books, bed, jade plant, art (thanks, Shawn!). The kitchen is across the hall. Clothes and bath are in the next room. Piano and a recliner are in the living room. 20 mbps Internet connection. Who could ask for anything more?

My previous space is now beautified and on the market! (This link is good only through July 29.)

Sunday morning I walked about two blocks to the nearest church. They had a large building, but only 40 people for the 8:45 service. Judging by the many posters about local and international missions, the later services must be big.

The scripture selection from Mark 5:21-43 had a strange effect on me. Suddenly I was back in Taiwan, 15 years ago, holding a little girl who was crying relentlessly. Shirly was about three, and had been born blind and had some other health problems. At the moment, this beautiful child was in pain about something. So we sat and rocked and cried. Some people in such moments give up on God. I tried to bargain with God. I am still learning from that time and similar times.

Monday I put in a full day of actual computer work. Picking up the newer technologies seemed to come naturally so far. My inaugural task of building a new kind of server looks straightforward.  This task will introduce me to this network, benefit the organization, and has little risk of breaking something. Subsequent tasks already identified will be more challenging. “First, do no harm” is the watchword.

  1. Hi, Greg,

My goodness, I’m glad I finally found a few moments to visit your site, thanks to the info you left me last week. Got the books — thanks! I’m sorry I didn’t get to see you before you left. Part of it was schedule — part of it was just not wanting to accept that you were leaving us. As I’m preparing to embark on directing You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown in a few weeks, I feel like a musical safety net has been taken from us. I’m going to follow you on your blog. So far, it sounds like the transition is going well. Still, I marvel at the significance of this change — the distance and the scope of what you’ll be doing. You know I wish you well. But we miss you.

    Keep us posted!
